Bromsgrove Young Voices

Rehearsal Details: Saturdays in term time, 10am - 12.00pm
Bromsgrove Young Voices gives young people the chance to discover how exhilarating it can be to sing together. There are four groups appropriate for children of different ages and experience. The groups are:
Explorers: for children aged 3 – 5
Explorers have fun singing songs, playing musical games and using simple percussion instruments. They will have the chance to find their singing voices and learn basic musical concepts. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and join in the sessions.
Discoverers: for children aged 5 – 7
Through songs, games and rhymes, Discoverers develop their singing voices and musicianship. They begin to learn to read music and develop the skills that make singing or instrumental playing a rewarding experience.
Adventurers: for young people aged 7 and over
Adventurers learn a broad repertoire of songs and enjoy singing both in unison and in basic harmony. They have the chance to learn to read music fluently and play enjoyable games to develop sight-reading and aural skills. Young people do not need to be able to read music before they join this group. When they have gained sufficient experience, they will be invited to join the Scholars.
Scholars: for more experienced singers
This group is for young people who are confident and dedicated singers, ready to tackle more challenging music, often working in two or more parts. It will be expected that the young people have some experience of reading music before they join this group, and they will have an informal ‘audition’ before they are invited to join.
Young people in all four groups will have the chance to perform on a regular basis, and to hear and see what the other groups are doing.
All groups take place on Saturday mornings during school term times (beginning on 22 September 2007) at St John’s Middle School, Watt Close, Bromsgrove, B61 7DH. We expect participants to make a firm commitment to their group and attend all sessions. An award will be given to for consistent attendance.
Times are as follows:
Explorers: 10.00 – 10.45
Discoverers: 11.00 – 12.00
Adventurers: 10.00 – 11.00
Scholars: 11.00 – 12.30
It costs £40 per term to participate in the programme. Various discounts are available for families on a low income, siblings, and for young people receiving tuition from Worcestershire Youth Music. Payment of this fee also entitles members of Bromsgrove Young Voices to take part in activities at any of Worcestershire’s Area Music Centres.
