A fun-filled singing day with Evesham Arts Centre Choir
Date: 05 March 2005 Time: 10:30am - 4:30pm Location: Evesham High School
Approximately thirty young people and fifteen members of Evesham Arts Centre Choir enjoyed a fun-filled day of singing together at Evesham High School.
The workshop formed part of RESOUND, Making Music's Young People's Programme, supported by Youth Music and the Carnegie (UK) Trust.
The day was led by Jon Payne and Cathy Dew. After an entertaining warm-up the young people and adults learned new songs from a wide range of traditions and cultures. After a short break the young people continued to work with Jon on a Caribbean song, while the adults learned a song from renaissance Spain with Cathy. After lunch, the groups worked together once again, learning some more early music and a new piece of musical theatre.
The day concluded with a concert for family and friends, which was extremely well-attended.
The participants clearly enjoyed the day. Many asked whether there would be another workshop they could attend, and several of the young people asked for more information about joining a choir.
Below are some of their comments:
"What I enjoyed most is singing with other people."
"You can learn a lot of songs in one day"
"It's fun to learn songs in different languages."
"There are lots of different ways to warm up."
"I really enjoyed the whole experience"
"It was really enjoyable to sing with lots of different people of different ages."
"The workshop was really enjoyable, and I would recommend it to my friends if you did it again."
