New Ways to Praise

Date: 08 October - 27 November 2005
Time: Autumn 2005
Location: Emmanuel Ecumenical Centre, Redditch

A short training programme for teachers, youth group co-ordinators and singing leaders

New Ways to Praise was a training course for people from all Christian traditions and denominations who lead worship with children and young people, either in school, in church or at a Christian youth group. It was open to anyone - participants did not need to be experienced musicians and the ability to read music was not essential.
The course gave participants the opportunity to:

  • Learn a wide range of songs from all around the world, many of which could be sung unaccompanied

  • Discover how to teach new songs successfully

  • Gain confidence as a singing leader and inspire others to sing

  • Explore ways to use music creatively in worship

  • Geoff Weaver
Geoff studied music at Cambridge University. In 1975 he went to Hong Kong with the Church Missionary Society, teaching music in a Chinese school. On his return to the UK he was appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers at Bradford Cathedral. From 1994 - 2002 he was Director of Studies at the Royal School of Church Music and has edited a number of books of sacred music. In recent years he has directed celebrations for young people in Worcester Cathedral. Geoff directs Kidderminster Choral Society and Wyre Forest Young Voices and is an examiner for the Associated Board.
