Melody Monkey Comes to Bromsgrove

A music-making project for pre-school groups
Between February and July 2005, Singworks and Worcestershire County Council ran a project with Early Years children that took place in libraries and Early Years settings across the county. The project was so successful that Singworks was generously funded by the David Morgan Trust to carry out a similar project in the Bromsgrove District.
Representatives from eight pre-school groups in the Bromsgrove District elected to attend a short training programme on music making with Early Years children, using Melody Monkey’s Marvellous Music Box. As well as taking part in three training sessions away from the children, trainees worked with a professional musician, who made eight visits to each participating pre-school group. During the early visits, the musician led music-making sessions with the children. The Early Years practitioners at the settings gradually began to take part by leading songs and musical games. By the end of the programme, the trainees were sufficiently experienced to lead the whole session. They then could continue leading music-making sessions with the children beyond the life of the programme. Each participating group has been given its own Melody Monkey Box to keep.
